Director Meegastenna said that the water levels of tanks and reservoirs in Dambulla, Polonnaruwa, and Anuradhapura had had increased and the Nuwara Vewa was at the spill level. Water level of the Abahaya Vewa increased 94 percent, Mahakanadara Vewa by 92 percent, Tissa Vewa by 95 percent and Nachchaduwa Vewa by 97 percent, she said, urging the pilgrims to avoid boat rides.

Authorities have taken action to deploy lifeguards near the tanks in view of Poson season. The life guards of the Navy, Police and volunteer organizations had already been posted near major reservoirs, according to the police.
