    Several programs held in Polonnaruwa under President’s patronage Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena opened the newly built commercial complex, Tourist Information Centre and the Tourist Police Station in Polonnaruwa on Wednesday (6th Dec.).

     

    The President vested the commercial complex in Polonnaruwa, tourist information center and the tourism police, built at a cost of Rs. 242mn, with public. These establishments were set up in newly constructed premises with the aim of improving comfort and convenience of the clients as well as to promote tourism. These projects were carried out in parallel to the ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ District Development Program, under the “Sukitha Purawara” Program of the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development.

     

    The President also joined a program carried out by Sri Lanka Red Cross Society to provide grants for kidney patients and a program held to donate essential material for pregnant mothers. 

     

    Another program to apprise the youth in the district regarding the employment opportunities in South Korea was also held under the patronage of President Sirisena at the Buddhi Mandapaya in Polonnaruwa on the same day.

     

    During this event, students were registered for the courses conducted by the Korean Language Center. Korean Language Instructor Tara Rajapaksha was also present at the occasion.

     

    The President later joined a program to categorize and evaluate the food packaging companies. The program was held at the auditorium of the Royal Central College in Polonnaruwa under the theme ‘Suvapath Diviyakata Yahapath Ahara’.

     

    President Sirisena also presented souvenirs to those who made a special contribution for the program – 2017 to grade food packaging companies and to the Public Health Inspectors who contributed to minimize smoking in the district by establishing smoke free zones.
