President Mahinda Rajapaksa had a meeting with Local Dairy Farmers on Thursday (20) at Temple Trees. He emphasized that the government’s aim was to strengthen the local dairy industry weaning the country away from import of milk powder from foreign countries.
A very representative gathering of about 5000 dairy farmers from all parts of the island were present. Farmers who has made a noteworthy contribution to the industry were given special awards by the President.
The dairy farmers too presented a special award of appreciation to the President for his efforts to strengthen the industry.
Ministers G.L.Peiris, Arumugam Thondamon, H.R.Mithrapala and Uva Provincial Council Minister Senthil Thondamon were also present.
