    End the era of political interference - President

    President Maithripala Sirisena says his objective is to create an era in which every section is operated freely and independently, without depending on politics.

    He said a system, in which people have to go after politicians to get their educational, health, social and infrastructural needs fulfilled has been established in the country. 'The aim of the new Government is to build a proper machinery to give appropriate solutions for these every need’ he said.

     

    The President recalled that funds, resources and other facilities should be disbursed according to the needs of the people.

     

    The President made these observations at a discussion held with “Aluth Parapura” organization at Presidential Secretariat today (May 13).

     

    President Sirisena also directed the officials to re-activate the program to offer scholarships for higher education for artists and professionals, which had been discontinued by the previous Government.

     

    He further said that the attention of the government has been drawn to develop the fields of Art and Literature. The Government will take necessary steps to improve the living standards of artists as well as their professional qualification, the President added.

     

    Here, the President invited artists to present their suggestions and ideas to the new government for the implementation of these programmes. “The future of this country needs creative people who act independently”, President Sirisena further said.

     

    Well known artistes Lakshman Wijesekara, Mohan Raj Madawala, Chinthana Dharmadasa and Samanalee Fonseka were present on this occasion.
