President assures to appoint a Special Commission to probe Golden Key incident

    July 26, 2015

President Maithripala Sirisena  said he would soon appoint a Special Commission to probe the Golden Key fiasco and to ascertain whether any more individuals involved in the debacle need to be prosecuted.

The President said the Commission will be headed by a retired Judge and added that he had arrived at the decision following discussions with the Prime Minister, Finance Minister and other stakeholders.

President Sirisena said so addressing a gathering of Golden Key depositors at the BMICH where he inaugurated the disbursement of payments to the aggrieved deposit holders of the now defunct Golden Key Credit Card Company.

The initial disbursement of monies to Golden Key depositors took place under the patronage of the President and with the participation of Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

The President said he would order a comprehensive probe which would investigate the past dealings of the company, reasons that led to its collapse, whether state authorities or outside individuals were involved in any negligence of duty or wrongdoings.
