    Work unitedly for the success of the National Policy to eradicate the drug menace - President

    President Maithripala Sirisena has stated that all the ministries and institutions must commit themselves to fulfill the responsibilities and duties bestow upon them in a perfectly satisfactory manner when engaged in the programs implemented by the Government to eradicate the drug menace from the country.

    He made these observations participating in a special discussion with the authorities on the problems faced by them when implementing the National program to eradicate the drug menace at the Presidential Secretariat on Monday (31).

     

    The President advised the relevant officials to present a report to him regarding the issues facing each ministry and institutions when implementing the drug eradicating programs and new proposals as well as shortages in the projects.

     

    During the discussion, the attention was drawn to issues related to the raids and the legal issues arise when conducting raids on the smuggling drugs into the country.

     

    The officials drew the attention of the President to the issues arise due to the lack of coordination between the relevant authorities when conducting raiding and enforcing the laws. The President emphasized the importance of everyone working unitedly for the success of the National Policy to eradicate the drug menace.

     

    Use of modern technology while raiding and to provide training to relevant officials were discussed in detail. Also the attention had been drawn to implement a program to felicitate the officers who are involved in raiding to encourage them further.

     

    Secretary to the President P.B. Abeykoon, Dr. Samantha Kumara- Director of the Presidential Task Force for Drug Prevention, Rohana Dissanayake- Additional Secretary to the President, .L.K.G.Gunawardena- Commissioner General of Excise, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Additional Director General- Thilak Perera and other officials were participated at the discussion.
