    Cultivation of paddy begins in Kimbulawela model fields

    Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka, at an event held on Monday said that the Government has no intention of building concrete forests. He said that its aim is to protect the trees and maintain the environment safeguarding the streams.

    An inaugural function to cultivate indigenous varieties of paddy in the Kimbulawela model fields adhering to the ancient agricultural framework. was held under the auspices of the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka. 91 farmers are to cultivate indigenous varieties of paddy within the Kimbulawela fields spanning 56 acres adhering to traditional methods.


    It is planned to utilize only organic fertilizer. Indigenous paddy varieties are being cultivated by the Urban Development Authority in collaboration with the Maharagama Agrarian Services Centre.

     

    Among those who joined in the event was Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya.
