No rice shortage in the Country - Minister Johnston Featured

    December 20, 2014

"Today, we maintain adequate rice stocks in the country without any shortage and imported rice will further be available islandwide at reduced prices," the Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando said. "The prices of rice will go down further within the next two weeks with the implementation of this program," the Minister added.. The reason for the prices of rice to increase was mainly due to the prevailing weather conditions, he added.

"Harvesting could not be done due to this and the result is the decrease in supplies to the market," he said. "Therefore, we have taken measures to sell imported rice at concessionary rates to the consumers as a solution to this problem," he said.
