    Army Officers Gift a Wheelchair to a Student in Welikanda

    Two officers serving the 23 Division in Punani under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) in a gesture of kindness had pocketed out their own money and had gifted a wheelchair to a school student, suffering from a spinal injury during a brief meeting on Wednesday (5).

     

    The 13-year old, W.G Nishanthi Madushika from Aselapura area, Welikanda, who was confined to a chair following spinal injuries found it difficult to go for studies on foot and remained in need of a wheelchair.  Information about her plight had been brought to the notice of Army personnel serving the area.

     

    Major M.G.J.G Kobewalla, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) and Lieutenant D.V.H.S Dassanayaka, Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) on hearing her requirement had promptly offered their financial patronage for purpose of buying a wheelchair.

     

    On Wednesday (5), those officers had invited the beneficiary to the 23 Division Headquarters and the new wheelchair had been gifted to her by Major General D.D.U.K Hettiaarachchi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Division Headquarters at the 23 Division Headquarters in the presence of her parents.
