    Air Force marks 65th year of protecting the skies on Mar. 02

    Sri Lanka Air Force 'The Guardians of the Skies' is celebrating its 65th anniversary on March 02.

    A series of programmes have been organised to mark this. Special variety shows were held in Vavuniya, Trincomalee and Galle for the public. The events were held at the Public Ground, Vavuniya on February 24; Ibrahim Ground, Trincomalee on February 26 and Samanala Ground, Galle yesterday.



    The variety shows included dancing items, dog show, drill display, drum displays.



    The Air Force has also focussed on a number of welfare projects to coincide with its 65th anniversary. These include the renovation of Moonrumurippu School in Vavuniya, renovation of Antenatal Clinic Centre attached to Wattakachchi Peripheral Hospital in Iranamadu, construction of class rooms for Wattappalai Central School in Mullaittivu and renovation of the BT/Puntha Annammal Tamil Vidyalaya Weechukalmunai, Batticaloa.



    The final variety show will be held at the Independence Square on March 1.



    The Air Force organised several community projects, variety shows, shramadana campaigns to renovate public installations, blood donation campaigns and dental clinics for the public.



    Guwan Papedi Sawariya, a cycle parade which commenced on February 25 concluded on Saturday.



    Meanwhile, the Air Force museum will kept open for the public free of charge on March 2.



    The annual Air Force Excellence Awards ceremony for the appreciation of Best Airman of the year 2015 and Best Research and Development Team will be held on March 3 at the SLAF Base Katunayake.
