"Viru Detata Atha Mita Saru", a special one-day 'Pola' (Trade fair) organized by the State Ministry of Defence was held at the Ministry, today (27). The fair was held under the agricultural self- employment project for retired service personnel mooted by the State Ministry.
In just five days since the launch of a comprehensive anti-narcotics drive in the Western Province with the opening of three drug reporting hotlines for the first time, 189 calls were received, out of which 48 resulted in heroin hauls. “The response has been remarkable. We are confident this initiative, which involves the community, will go a long way in ensuring that there’s a free flow of information on crimes and criminals,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Western Province (North), Deshabandu Tennakoon. “By highlighting the gravity of the situation, this project has overcome two key elements which inhibit community involvement: fear and apathy.”

The Health Ministry will next week gazette maximum charges for tests, treatment and surgery at private hospitals, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said. Accordingly, 53 medical and surgical procedures including lab tests, scans, examination reports, cataract operations, bypass surgery, and angiogram charges will have a maximum charge which hospitals will required to adhere to.
Under the 'Enterprise Sri Lanka' Program operated by the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media, loans were granted to 283 entrepreneurs in Polonnaruwa. The Regional Development Bank (RDB), Polonnaruwa has distributed Rs. 32.4 million to the applicants under several loan schemes of the 'Enterprise Sri Lanka' program.
